چکیده

The importance of Na+/H+ antiporters in salt tolerance plants has been demonstrated many studies, but much less is known about their protective role during drought stress. To study possible contribution to water deficit tolerance, two closely related soybean belonging the intracellular NHX exchanger protein family, GmNHX3 and GmNHX1, were evaluated transgenic Arabidopsis thaliana. A. thaliana ectopically expressing or GmNHX1 displayed a more drought-tolerant phenotype compared wild-type plants, which was accompanied by an increase relative content chlorophyll stress conditions. Both GmHNX1 GmHNX3 lines accumulated higher amounts Na+ K+ cations, showed increased antioxidant enzyme activities membrane damage due lipid peroxidation under deficit, as non-transformed plants. Furthermore, sensitivity abscisic acid deduced from stomatal closure seed germination inhibition studies. Finally, significant up-regulation abiotic stress-related genes observed both response mannitol treatments. These results demonstrate that confer protection hence are potential genetic targets improve other crops.

Identification and Expression Analysis of Two Arabidopsis LRR-Protein Encoding Genes Responsive to Some Abiotic Stresses

AbstractTwo Arabidopsis thaliana genes, psr9.2 and psr9.4 appearedto be highly similar to a phosphate-starved induced gene,psr9, isolated from Brassica nigra suspension cells.Sequence analysis classified the encoded polypeptides asmembers of leucine-rich repeat (LRR) proteins superfamily. The sequence of psr9 proteins comprise a unique N-terminalregion e...

Heterologous Expression of Two Jatropha Aquaporins Imparts Drought and Salt Tolerance and Improves Seed Viability in Transgenic Arabidopsis thaliana

Drought and high salinity are environmental conditions that cause adverse effects on the growth and productivity of crops. Aquaporins are small integral membrane proteins that belong to the family of the major intrinsic proteins (MIPs), with members in animals, plants and microbes, where they facilitate the transport of water and/or small neutral solutes thereby affecting water balance. In this...

Genes commonly regulated by water-deficit stress in Arabidopsis thaliana.

Cellular water-deficit stress triggers many changes in gene expression which can be used to define the response of a plant to an environmental condition. Microarray technology permits the study of expression patterns of thousands of genes simultaneously, permitting a comprehensive understanding of the types and quantities of RNAs that are present in a cell in response to water-deficit stress. T...

Ectopic expression of Arabidopsis thaliana Na+(K+)/H+ antiporter gene, AtNHX5, enhances soybean salt tolerance.

Drought and salt stresses are the two major factors influencing the yield and quality of crops worldwide. Na(+)(K(+))/H(+) antiporters (NHXs) are ubiquitous membrane proteins that play important roles in maintaining the cellular pH and Na(+)(K(+)) homeostasis. The model plant Arabidopsis potentially encodes six NHX genes, namely AtNHX1 to 6. In the present study, AtNHX5, a comparatively less we...
